STUDENT DESIGN EXCURSION FROM TRONDHEIM, HEADED TO THE PEARL OF AFRICA


We’re on our way to Uganda, the pearl of Africa.  15 students plus myself from the department of product design. This will be a crash-course into industrial design from the African perspective. tredjeklasse

On our schedule we have:

1.Get to know Kampala, the Owino market and the balance of Ugandan produced items versus imported first and second-hand products.

2. Visit at the Makerere Margaret Trowell School of industrial and fine Arts http://sifa.mak.ac.ug/

3. Visit at CREEC, Center for Research on Energy Conversation http://creec.or.ug/

4. Together with Makerere students, we will visit the SMEs Ugastove and Einstein Technologies to learn about industrial production and end-user design in Uganda. The insights will be explored further in a design workshop.

5. Visit at NIAAD Art and Design School, Entebbe https://www.facebook.com/groups/480836962025589/

During the trour, the students will also be responsible for making a foto-documentary in order to explore design challenges and opportunities in relation to cooking, energy use, material availability and affordability.
